The Starfish Principle: A Founding Philosophy of Undoxa Post

Guiding Principal at Undoxa

Every organization has a story. Some begin with a business plan. Some begin with an idea. Others begin with a simple lesson that shapes everything that follows.

One of the founding principles behind Undoxa began before Undoxa existed.

When Laura Timbrook joined Lauren Spranger at ExcelR-8 as part of the technical division, the company's founder, Deb Buchanan, shared a story that would leave a lasting impression.

It is a story often referred to as The Starfish Story.

A young girl was walking along a beach after a storm. The shoreline was covered with hundreds, perhaps thousands, of stranded starfish.

One by one, she began picking them up and throwing them back into the ocean.

An older man approached her and asked, "Why are you doing that? There are too many. You can't possibly save them all. What difference does it make?"

The girl bent down, picked up another starfish, and tossed it into the water.

Then she replied: "It made a difference to that one."

At ExcelR-8, that story became more than a motivational tale. It became a guiding principle. The goal was never to help everyone. The goal was to help the person standing in front of you.

  • One customer.

  • One business.

  • One opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

When Laura and Lauren took over the technical division at ExcelR-8 and transformed it into Undoxa, a few things changed. The brand evolved. The vision expanded. New products, services, and communities were created.

But that principle remained.

In a world obsessed with scale, reach, followers, and growth at all costs, Undoxa continues to believe that meaningful change often starts much smaller.

  • A business owner who finally has systems that give them their evenings back.

  • A coach who feels supported instead of overwhelmed.

  • An organization that creates a better experience for its clients, patients, or employees.

These individual stories may never make headlines, but they matter deeply to the people living them.

That is the lens through which Undoxa operates.

Not because one business will change the world overnight.

But because changing the experience of one business owner can change the experience of every client, customer, patient, employee, or family member they serve.

The ripple effect matters.

And while the tools, technology, and services continue to evolve, the principle remains unchanged.

We may not be able to help everyone. But we can help the one in front of us.

And sometimes, that makes all the difference.
